Notes from the superintendent:
Welcome to the 2008 golf season. As I write this letter in Jan. it is 8 below zero with a wind chill of 35 below. The only good thing about it is that it has to get better.
Last years addition of Assistant Superintendent, Terry Simon and Equipment Manager, Mike Bushman was very positive, their knowledge and experience was welcome
to a complicated transition. It was a year of training and assisting each other through a lot of different experiences and general aspects of the golf course.
They are both very hard workers. I’m happy to have them back and am looking forward to exploring all of their new and exciting ideas for the A.G.C.
Our irrigation well project is basically complete with the exception of a few finishing touches this spring. It was helpful to have Terry and Mike there in
the early stages of the project and having Mike in the shop allowed me to be out on the course where I was needed the most. It took much of our time,
especially the many leaks or “growing pains” that occurred with the increased water pressure and volume, but the benefits the course will eventually see made it worthwhile.
Between the time and funds spent on the well project and dealing with another drought we were still able to complete some much needed improvements. This included bunker and
tee box renovation, more asphalt cart paths, and rebuilding three bridges. And once again despite the intense drought conditions, the flowers were wonderful.
As I have said in the past, thank you for your patience in allowing the grounds crew time to complete our tasks. Please allow them to finish or move out of your way
before hitting your shot. We’ve had a lot of close calls and a few direct hits in the recent past and it is at their request that I bring this to your attention.
Let’s make the 2008 season the best ever. Remember the course belongs to you, let’s all do our part to make it the best we can.
Thanks again!
See you when the grass turns green!
